The WRJV317 repeaters are open to any licensed GMRS user. They are intended to provide the community a means of communication with their neighbors and friends that live within the coverage areas.
Multiple repeaters have been installed, and more are on the way. The reason is to provide the best coverages along the river valley as possible.
These repeaters are not linked together, because of FCC rules, but they provide 10 to 15 miles of coverage in most cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) is a licensed radio service operating on 462\u2013467 MHz designed for reliable, short-to-medium distance two-way communication. This system would let licensed users talk and communicate providing reliable voice communications when cell networks are unavailable or overwhelmed.<\/p>
GMRS offers higher power (up to 50W for mobile, 5W for handhelds), allowing for better communication range and clearer signals. Radios include handheld walkie-talkies and mobile\/base station units. A $35 FCC license covers the applicant and their immediate family for 10 years, requiring no exam. It supports handhelds and mobile units, featuring repeaters for extended range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Many GMRS handhelds include built-in NWR receive capability \u2014 a single device can both receive official weather alerts and participate in community coordination.<\/p>
Fallback communication when internet, cell, and landline infrastructure are compromised.<\/p>
Primary voice coordination channel for residents, first responders, camp directors, and community volunteers during active events.<\/p>
GMRS repeaters extend range across Kerr counties terrain, allowing communication from the river to higher ground locations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

You can obtain an FCC-issued GMRS license for your family online in a matter of minutes! First, lets check our eligibility:<\/strong>
The GMRS licensee must be:
* 18 years or older
* Not be a representative of a foreign government
* Applying on yours and your families behalf (a business can not apply for a blanket GMRS license, but individuals can use the radios for work)
Step one: Obtain an FRN number<\/strong>
Start by obtaining a 10-digit FRN (FCC Registered Number) from the Commission Registration System (CORES)<\/a>. We recommend completing this process on a computer (the buttons are quite small using a mobile device).
1. Click \u201cRegister\u201d (middle of the three boxes) and set up your account
* We recommend using an email account that you\u2019ll have access to permanently (ie: not a school or work email address that you might lose access at some point).
2. Once you’ve created your account, log in using the email address (username) and password you just set up.
3. Select \u201cRegister FRN\u201d from the central box (third option from top)
4. Follow the steps to confirm yourself as an individual<\/em><\/strong>, complete the FRN registration form, then press submit.
* Note: you will need to input your social security number or a tax identification number at this step
* You will receive your 10 digit FRN number after submitting at the top of the landing page.
Step Two: Apply for your GMRS license<\/strong>
Once you\u2019ve obtained your FRN, you can apply for a GMRS License in the FCC\u2019s<\/a> License Manager<\/a>.
* You will need your FRN number and the password created for the CORES website to login.
1. Once logged in, you will see an option at the top of the left-hand sidebar to \u201cApply for a new license”
2. In the dropdown, scroll all the way to the bottom to \u201cZA – General Mobile Radio\u201d, then click “Continue”
3. Follow the rest of the application. There will be questions to answer with dropdown menus and a page for you to enter your contact information. You will then arrive at the Summary page. Click “Continue to Certify” if everything looks correct.
4. Next you will be asked to sign by entering your first name, middle initial, and last name. The “Title” field is optional.
5. Once you have successfully submitted your application, click the button to Continue to CORES website for payment completion.
6. Log back into CORES using the email address & password from step 4 then select the second option from the menu titled \u201cManage Existing FRNs | FRN Financial | Bills and Fees \u201c
7. Then select the second option \u201cFRN Financial\u201d then \u201cView\/Make Payments\u201d under the Action column.
8. Finally, select \u201cMake Payment\u201d and follow the instructions.
9. Once payment has been made, you\u2019re finished with the process!
*Your call sign should be issued via email within 1-2 business days*<\/strong>
<\/strong>After submitting your payment, you will not receive an email immediately after but you can check on the status by logging into the License Manager<\/a>
Once you receive your call sign, remember to keep it handy! Consider committing it to memory or printing it out to have it easily accessible.
